This measure would designate the Golden Valley Road Bridge over State Highway Route 14 in the City of Santa Clarita as the Connie Worden-Roberts Memorial Bridge. The measure would request the Department of Transportation to determine the cost for appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering that cost, to erect those signs.

P1    1WHEREAS, Connie Worden-Roberts demonstrated
2extraordinary service to the Santa Clarita Valley community and
3was known as the Santa Clarita Valley’s “Road Warrior”; and

4WHEREAS, Connie Worden-Roberts championed the
5development of the valley’s transportation network for nearly four
6decades, serving as the vice-chair of the City of Santa Clarita
7Formation Committee and serving on the city’s first planning
8commission; and

P2    1WHEREAS, Connie Worden-Roberts also served as chairwoman
2of the League of Women Voters of Los Angeles County, founder
3of the Valley Industry Association, former chairwoman of the
4board and director of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of
5Commerce, and as a member of many more community
6organizations; and

7WHEREAS, Connie Worden-Roberts was an early visionary
8and tireless advocate for the Golden Valley Road Bridge project,
9knowing it was necessary to meet the needs of the growing valley;
10and

11WHEREAS, Connie Worden-Roberts passed away on August
1212, 2014; and

13WHEREAS, Designating the Golden Valley Road Bridge over
14State Highway Route 14 in the City of Santa Clarita as the Connie
15Worden-Roberts Memorial Bridge would be an appropriate honor
16for this community champion; now, therefore, be it

17Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
18thereof concurring,
That the Legislature hereby designates the
19Golden Valley Road Bridge over State Highway Route 14 in the
20City of Santa Clarita as the Connie Worden-Roberts Memorial
21Bridge; and be it further

22Resolved, That the Department of Transportation is requested
23to determine the cost of erecting appropriate signs, consistent with
24the signing requirements for the state highwaybegin delete systemend deletebegin insert system,end insert
25 showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations
26from nonstate sources covering that cost, to erect those signs; and
27be it further

28Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
29of this resolution to the Director of Transportation and to the author
30for appropriate distribution.
