          SUBJECT:  Connie Worden-Roberts Memorial Bridge.


          SUMMARY:  Designates the Golden Valley Road Bridge over State  
          Route (SR) 14 in the City of Santa Clarita as the "Connie  
          Worden-Roberts Memorial Bridge."  Specifically, this resolution:  
           


          1)Recounts the lifetime accomplishments of Connie  
            Worden-Roberts, known as the Santa Clarita Valley's "Road  
            Warrior" because of her efforts related to transportation  
            planning in Santa Clarita.    

          2)Designates the Golden Valley Road Bridge over State Route 14  
            in the City of Santa Clarita as the "Connie Worden-Roberts  
            Memorial Bridge."

          3)Requests that the California Department of Transportation  
            (Caltrans) determine the cost of appropriate signs, consistent  
            with the signing requirements for the state highway system,  
            showing the special designation and, upon receiving donations  
            from non-state sources covering that cost, to erect those  
            signs.  

          EXISTING LAW:  Assigns Caltrans the responsibility of operating

          and maintaining state highways.  This includes the installation  
          and maintenance of highway signs


          FISCAL EFFECT:  Unknown, but the measure requests that Caltrans  
          only erect the appropriate signage upon receiving donations from  
          non-state sources covering the cost.


          COMMENTS:  Ms. Connie Worden-Roberts was active in the Santa  
          Clarita Valley community.  She championed the development of the  
          valley's transportation network for nearly four decades, serving  
          as the vice-chair of the City of Santa Clarita Formation  
          Committee and serving on the city's first planning commission.   
          Ms. Worden-Roberts also served as chairwoman of the League of  
          Women Voters of Los Angeles County, founder of the Valley  
          Industry Association, and chairwoman of the board and director  
          of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce.  Ms.  
          Worden-Roberts was an early visionary and tireless advocate for  
          the Golden Valley Road Bridge project, which is currently under  
          construction.
