Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 90—Relative to California Firefighters Memorial Day.

ACR 90, as introduced, Irwin. California Firefighters Memorial Day.

This measure would proclaim October 17, 2015, as California Firefighters Memorial Day.

P1    1WHEREAS, The California Firefighters Memorial, located on
2the grounds of the State Capitol, serves to honor and commemorate
3California firefighters who unwaveringly serve our great state with
4pride, courage, and honor; and

5WHEREAS, The California Firefighters Memorial is also a
6symbol of gratitude and appreciation to the men and women of
7the fire service who put their lives on the line each day to protect
8the people, property, and beauty of California; and

9WHEREAS, Each of the over 1,250 names engraved on the
10brushed limestone walls of the California Firefighters Memorial
11is a tribute to the finest and bravest of our state who have made
12the ultimate sacrifice as firefighters; and

13WHEREAS, The California Firefighters Memorial is the only
14state monument capturing the names of these courageous
15firefighters, who made service to our great State of California their
16priority, and shall continue this legacy in perpetuity; and

P2    1WHEREAS, Many of the fallen firefighters whose names adorn
2the California Firefighters Memorial suffered and ultimately
3succumbed to diseases, such as cancer, as a result of the hazardous
4nature of their work, including routine exposure to toxic chemicals;
5and

6WHEREAS, On October 17, 2015, firefighters and their families
7from throughout the state will gather in Sacramento with their
8fellow Californians for the 2015 California Firefighters Memorial
9Ceremony to honor the men and women of the fire service who
10have selflessly given their lives to protect California; now,
11therefore, be it

12Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
13thereof concurring,
That the Legislature hereby proclaims October
1417, 2015, as Firefighters Memorial Day, and urges Californians
15to remember firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty and
16to express their appreciation to those firefighters who continue to
17protect us; and be it further

18Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
19of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
