Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 90—Relative to California Firefighters Memorial Day.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

ACR 90, as amended, Irwin. California Firefighters Memorial Day.

This measure would proclaim October 17, 2015, as California Firefighters Memorial Day.

P1    1WHEREAS, The California Firefighters Memorial, located on
2the grounds of the State Capitol, serves to honor and commemorate
3California firefighters who unwaveringly serve our great state with
4pride, courage, and honor; and

P2    1WHEREAS, The California Firefighters Memorial is also a
2symbol of gratitude and appreciation to the men and women of
3the fire service who put their lives on the line each day to protect
4the people, property, and beauty of California; and

5WHEREAS, Each of the over 1,250 names engraved on the
6brushed limestone walls of the California Firefighters Memorial
7is a tribute to the finest and bravest of our state who have made
8the ultimate sacrifice as firefighters; and

9WHEREAS, The California Firefighters Memorial is the only
10state monument capturing the names of these courageous
11firefighters, who made service to our great State of California their
12priority, and shall continue this legacy in perpetuity; and

13WHEREAS, Many of the fallen firefighters whose names adorn
14the California Firefighters Memorial suffered and ultimately
15succumbed to diseases, such as cancer, as a result of the hazardous
16nature of their work, including routine exposure to toxic chemicals;
17and

18WHEREAS, On October 17, 2015, firefighters and their families
19from throughout the state will gather in Sacramento with their
20fellow Californians for the 2015 California Firefighters Memorial
21Ceremony to honor the men and women of the fire service who
22have selflessly given their lives to protect California; now,
23therefore, be it

24Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
25thereof concurring,
That the Legislature hereby proclaims October
2617, 2015, as Firefighters Memorial Day, and urges Californians
27to remember firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty and
28to express their appreciation to those firefighters who continue to
29protect us; and be it further

30Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
31of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
