ANALYSIS: This resolution makes the following legislative

1)In the 20th century, 40 years of internal political turmoil
forced hundreds of thousands of Salvadorans to flee El
Salvador, seeking peace and security in a new country, the
United States.
2)Now Salvadoran Americans constitute one of the largest Latino
communities in California, totaling over one million
throughout the state and 6% of all immigrants nationwide.
3)The history of our nation and California is a rich and
enduring tapestry woven with the threads of many remarkable
lives, cultures, and events, and the lives, work, and artistry
of Salvadoran Americans has added strength, vitality, and

Comments
According to the author,
Salvadoran Americans make up a signifi-cant population in
the United States with California being home to
approximately one million Salvadoran Americans.
In the 1980s and 1990s civil war plagued many Central
American countries, including El Salvador, which led many
Salvadorans to immigrate and seek refuge in the United
States. Since the first wave of Salvadoran immigrants, the
population has continued to grow as families have attempted
to reunify with their loved ones. Today Salvadoran
Americans make up the third largest Latino population and
sixth largest immigrant group in the United States.
In California Salvadoran Americans predominately live in
metropolitan areas such as San Francisco and Los Angeles,
which is home to the only designated El Salvador Corridor
in the nation. ACR 99 recognizes the significant
contributions, customs, and traditions that Salvadoran
Americans have introduced and continue to uphold in their
communities.
