*********** ANALYSIS ADDENDUM - SUSPENSE FILE ***********
The following information is revised to reflect amendments
adopted by the committee on August 27, 2015
Bill
Summary: This bill requires the Superintendent of Public
Instruction (Superintendent) to oversee, and the State Board of
Education (Board) to adopt, an ethnic studies model curriculum,
as specified. This bill also requires an Ethnic Studies
Advisory Committee to make recommendations on the development of
the model curriculum.
Fiscal
Impact:
Anticipated costs to the California Department of Education of
about $476,000 in the first year and $313,000 in the second
year to develop the model curriculum and support the Ethnic
Studies Advisory Committee. This includes two full-time and
two part-time positions. (General Fund)

Amendments: Amend to reduce ongoing costs by eliminating the
following requirements: the Board to adopt "other support
systems"; advisory committee duties that go beyond providing
recommendations on the model curriculum; and the submission of
an implementation plan by the Superintendent.
