SUBJECT: Coastal Cleanup Day.
SUMMARY: Encourages citizens, businesses, groups,
organizations, and public institutions to observe and
participate in coastal protection activities, and proclaim
September 19, 2015, as the 31st annual Coastal Cleanup Day.
Specifically, this resolution makes the following legislative
findings:
1)The 31st annual Coastal Cleanup Day will be held on September
19, 2015.
2)The State of California has 1,100 miles of coastline,
including many sandy beaches, rocky shores, bluffs, estuaries,
marshes, tidal flats, urban areas, and harbors.
3)The natural resources of the coastal zone are among
California's most important economic and environmental
resources and the marine environment is on the most valuable
resources for recreation, tourism, fishing, and other coastal
industries.

4)Coastal Cleanup Day is the largest annual volunteer event in
the state, with over 60 coordinating organizations and 70,000
volunteers participating. Over 1.3 million Coastal Cleanup
Day volunteers have collected over 21,000,000 pounds (10,500
tons) of trash from California's beaches, shoreline, creeks,
estuaries, and the ocean floor over the last 30 years.
5)The State of California is strongly committed to thoughtful
management of the state's coastline to ensure that the
environmental and economic value of the coastal zone will be
sustained.
