This measure would designate the portion of Interstate 10 from the State Route 57 Interchange to thebegin delete Indian Hill Boulevard Exitend deletebegin insert North Towne Avenue Exitend insert in the County of Los Angeles as the Officer Shaun Diamond Memorial Highway. The measure would also request the Department of Transportation to determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering that cost, to erect those signs.

P1 1WHEREAS, The dedicated men and women who have chosen
2law enforcement as a career face extraordinary risk and danger in
3preserving our freedom and security; and
4WHEREAS, On October 29, 2014, Officer Shaun Richard
5Diamond, age 45, of the Pomona Police Department succumbed
6to a gunshot wound he sustained the previous day while performing
7his sworn duty with the department’s SWAT unit, and his untimely
8death in the pursuit of the highest ideals of public safety has
P2 1brought immense sorrow and loss to the people of Pomona and
2throughout the State of California; and
3WHEREAS, A 16-year veteran of the law enforcement
4community, having worked for police departments in Los Angeles
5and Montebello prior to joining the Pomona Police Department
6(PPD) in 2006, Officer Shaun Diamond had a passion for working
7SWAT, and as a member of the PPD’s SWAT unit for the past six
8years, he had served on dozens of SWAT operations and shared
9his expertise as a Field Training Officer, in which capacity he was
10responsible for training new recruits; and
11WHEREAS, In his most recent assignment to the Pomona
12Downtown District Enforcement Team, Officer Diamond worked
13as a law enforcement liaison with the business community and the
14community at large, giving generously of his time to such local
15events and organizations as the Special Olympics and Tip-A-Cop.
16His community outreach efforts also included K-9 and SWAT
17demonstrations for local school children; and
18WHEREAS, Exemplifying the true character of the brave men
19and women who devote their time and energy to the perilous duties
20of law enforcement, Officer Diamond is remembered by his family,
21friends, and colleagues for his wonderful sense of humor, his
22contagious smile, and his unwavering commitment and dedication
23to duty, and for his efforts that made Pomona’s streets safer, its
24neighborhoods stronger, and its residents more secure; and
25WHEREAS, Over the course of his distinguished career, Officer
26Shaun Diamond was renowned among his fellow officers for his
27love, honor, and dedication to his family, the uniform, and the law
28enforcement community, all of which were indelible and
29inseparable in his life. Officer Diamond leaves to his beloved
30children, Margo and Kelly Diamond, his devoted mother, Joy
31Diamond, and the countless individuals whose lives he touched,
32a legacy of commitment and service to others; and
33WHEREAS, Although we know that we can never repay the
34debt owed this valiant officer and his family, with this resolution,
35we pay tribute to his memory by standing with all law-abiding
36citizens in expressing our deepest appreciation for Officer
37Diamond’s selfless dedication to preserving public safety; now,
38therefore, be it
39Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
40thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby dedicates the

2begin delete Indian Hill Boulevard Exitend deletebegin insert North Towne Avenue Exitend insert in the County

5Resolved, That the Department of Transportation is requested
6to determine the cost of appropriate signs consistent with the
7signing requirements for the state highway system showing this
8special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate
9sources sufficient to cover that cost, to erect those signs; and be it
10further
11Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
12of this resolution to the Director of Transportation and to the author
13for appropriate distribution.
