Specifically, this resolution makes the following legislative findings: 1)February 6, 2016, will be the 105th anniversary of Ronald Reagan's birth and the 11th since his passing. 2)Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction for two terms as the 40th President of the United States of America; and his commitment to our Armed Forces contributed to the restoration ACR 117 Page 2 of pride in America and prepared America's Armed Forces to meet 21st century challenges. 3)President Reagan's commitment to the nation's children helped lower crime and drug use in our neighborhoods; and his vision of "peace through strength" led to the end of the Cold War. 4)In 1987 President Reagan gave a speech at the Berlin Wall where he famously told Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to "tear down this wall," which later became reality in 1989. 5)President Reagan, a man of humble background, worked throughout his life serving freedom and advancing the public good, having been employed as an entertainer, union leader, a corporate spokesman, Governor of California, and President of the United States.
