ANALYSIS: This resolution makes the following legislative findings: 1)President Reagan, a man of humble background, worked throughout his life serving freedom and advancing the public good, having been employed as an entertainer, union leader, a corporate spokesman, Governor of California, and President of the United States. 2)February 6, 2016, will be the 105th anniversary of Ronald Reagan's birth and the 11th since his passing. 3)Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction for two terms as the 40th President of the United States of America; and his commitment to our Armed Forces contributed to the restoration of pride in America and prepared America's Armed Forces to meet 21st century challenges. 4)President Reagan's commitment to the nation's children helped ACR 117 Page 2 lower crime and drug use in our neighborhoods; and his vision of "peace through strength" led to the end of the Cold War. 5)In 1987 President Reagan gave a speech at the Berlin Wall where he famously told Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to "tear down this wall," which later became reality in 1989. This resolution recognizes February 6, 2016, as Ronald Reagan Day, and states that the Legislature takes great pride in honoring Ronald Reagan for his many contributions to our country and in celebrating his life. Prior Legislation ACR 87 (Wilk, Resolution Chapter 10, Statutes of 2014) declared February 6, 2014, as Ronald Reagan Day. ACR 5 (Wilk, Resolution Chapter 4, Statutes of 2013) declared February 6, 2013, as Ronald Reagan Day. ACR 93 (Garrick, Resolution Chapter 45, Statutes of 2012) declared February 6, 2012, as Ronald Reagan Day.
