AS PASSED BY THE ASSEMBLY, this resolution:
1)Recounted the life and accomplishments of Thomas H. Pohlman, a
sheriff's deputy in the Los Angeles County Sheriff's
Department.
2)Designated the interchange of SR 60 and I-710 in Los Angeles
County as the "Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff Thomas H.
Pohlman Memorial Interchange."
3)Requested that the California Department of Transportation
(Caltrans) determine the cost of appropriate signs, consistent
with the signing requirements for the state highway system,
showing the special designation and, upon receiving donations
from non-state sources covering that cost, to erect those
signs.
FISCAL EFFECT: According to the Senate Appropriations
Committee, pursuant to Senate Rule 28.8, negligible state costs.
COMMENTS: Thomas H. Pohlman was appointed as a sheriff's deputy
in the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in 1973 and
served for nearly five years. Deputy Sheriff Pohlman was killed
in the line of duty on April 19, 1978, at the age of 27, while
pursuing and detaining a suspect. This resolution designating
the interchange at I-10 and I-710 in his honor acknowledges the
significant role Deputy Sheriff Pohlman played in his community.
