signs.

and maintaining state highways including the installation and
maintenance of highway signs.
FISCAL EFFECT: Unknown, but the measure requests that Caltrans
only erect the appropriate signage upon receiving donations from
non-state sources covering the cost.
COMMENTS: The author seeks to honor Ventura County Deputy
Sheriff Peter Aguirre, Jr., who originally attended college to
become a school teacher. After earning his Bachelor of Arts
degree from the University of California Northridge, he instead
decided to pursue a career in law enforcement. Deputy Aguirre
had only been with the Ventura County Sherriff's Department for
three years when on July 17, 1996, he was killed in the line of
duty. Deputy Aguirre, along with other officers responded to a
domestic disturbance call in the Ojai Valley. Shortly after
arriving at the scene the suspect opened fire on the deputies,
fatally wounding Deputy Aguirre. His fellow officers were
impressed by his hard work and dedication. Deputy Aguirre
leaves behind his wife and daughter. This resolution in his
honor acknowledges his tireless work upholding public safety and
that he gave his life protecting others.
