DIGEST: This resolution designates a portion of State Highway
Route 33 in the County of Ventura as the Ventura County Deputy
Sheriff Peter Aguirre, Jr. Memorial Highway.
ANALYSIS: This resolution designates the portion of State
Highway Route 33 in the County of Ventura from West Ojai Avenue
at post mile 11.21 to Fairview Road at post mile 12.8 as the
Ventura County Deputy Sheriff Peter Aguirre, Jr. Memorial
Highway. The Department of Transportation is requested to
determine the cost of appropriate signs and upon receiving
sufficient donations from nonstate sources, to erect those
signs.

1)Purpose. The purpose of this resolution is to honor the life
and service of Deputy Sheriff Peter Aguirre, Jr.
2)Background on Deputy Aguirre. Peter Aguirre, Jr. attended
Mupu Elementary School in Santa Paula and graduated from Santa
Paula High School in 1987. He graduated from California State
University, at Northridge, where he considered a teaching
career. Instead, he chose a career in law enforcement,
joining the Ventura County Sheriff's Department where he
served almost three years. On July 17, 1996, Deputy Sheriff
Aguirre responded to a domestic violence call where he was
ambushed, shot, and killed.
Deputy Aguirre is survived by his wife and daughter.
