Amended: 5/19/16 in Assembly Vote: 21 ASSEMBLY FLOOR: Read and adopted, 5/19/16 SUBJECT: Emergency Medical Services Week SOURCE: Author DIGEST: This resolution proclaims the week of May 15-21, 2016, as Emergency Medical Services Week. ANALYSIS: This resolution makes the following legislative findings: 1)Emergency medical services (EMS) are a vital public service and the members of EMS teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week with approximately 25-30 million patients nationwide and over two million patients throughout California receiving EMS each year. 2)It is estimated that there are over 840,000 EMS personnel in the United States, including over 80,000 in the State of California. 3)EMS providers are dedicated to saving lives and possess a sense of duty to aid others that is inherent in the profession and stays with an EMS provider for life. ACR 171 Page 2 4)The EMS system consists of emergency physicians, emergency nurses, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, educators, administrators, and others. 5)This is the 42nd anniversary of National EMS Week; and the theme of EMS Week is "Called to Care". This resolution proclaims the week of May 15-21, 2016, as EMS Week in California to recognize the value and accomplishments of EMS personnel. Related/Prior Legislation ACR 10 (Rodriguez, Resolution Chapter 62, Statutes of 2015) proclaimed the week of May 17-23, 2015, inclusive, as EMS Week.
