Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 180—Relative to the Sergeant Brian Walker Memorial Highway.

ACR 180, as amended, Obernolte. Sergeant Brian Walker Memorial Highway.

This measure would designate a specified portion of State Highway Route 247 in the County of San Bernardino as the Sergeant Brian Walker Memorial Highway. The measure would also request the Department of Transportation to determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering that cost, to erect those signs.

P1    1WHEREAS, Sergeant Brian L. Walker was born and raised in
2San Bernardino County’s high desert region; and

3WHEREAS, Sergeant Walker attended Lucerne Valley High
4begin delete Schoolend deletebegin insert School,end insert where he was an officer in the Future Farmers of
5America program; and

6WHEREAS, Sergeant Walker served as a military policeman
7in the United States Army assigned to the 425th Brigade Special
P2    1Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th
2Infantry Division; and

3WHEREAS, Six days after arriving for his second deployment
4in the Middle East, Sergeant Walker was tragically killed in
5Afghanistan on May 13, 2012, when a vehicle under his command
6was hit with an improvised explosive device, killing him and the
7driver of the vehicle, Private First Class Richard L. McNulty III;
8and

9WHEREAS, Naming a highway is but a small way to honor the
10bravery of Sergeantbegin delete Walkerend deletebegin insert Walker,end insert who made the ultimate
11sacrifice so that we may enjoy the freedoms of this great nation;
12now, therefore, be it

13Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
14thereof concurring,
That the Legislature hereby designates the
15portion of State Highway Route 247 in the County of San
16Bernardino, beginning at the intersection of State Highway Route
17247 and Allen Waybegin insert at postmile 44.366end insert and continuingbegin delete toward
18Johnson Valley for five miles,end delete
begin insert to Camp Rock Road at postmile

as the Sergeant Brian Walker Memorial Highway; and be
20it further

21Resolved, That the Department of Transportation is requested
22to determine the cost of erecting the appropriate signs, consistent
23with the signing requirements for the state highway system,
24showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations
25from nonstate sources covering that cost, to erect those signs; and
26be it further

27Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
28of this resolution to the Director of Transportation and to the author
29for appropriate distribution.
