This measure would designate the portions of State Highway Routesbegin delete 5,end delete 16, 20, and 45 in the County of Colusa for inclusion in the National Purple Heart Trail. The measure would also request that the Department of Transportation determine the cost for the installation and maintenance of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering that cost, erect those signs.

P1 1WHEREAS, The National Purple Heart Trail was established
2in 1992 for the purpose of commemorating and honoring men and
3women who have been wounded or killed in combat while serving
4in the United States Armed Forces; and
5WHEREAS, The National Purple Heart Trail courses its way
6across the vast majority of the United States; and
7WHEREAS, In 2001, pursuant to the Senate Concurrent
8Resolution 14, the Legislature designated portions of Interstate
P2 1Highway Routes 5 and 80 as California’s selections for inclusion
2in the National Purple Heart Trail; and
3WHEREAS, In 2009, pursuant to Assembly Concurrent
4Resolution 12, the Legislature designated a certain portion of State
5Highway Route 101 in the Counties of Monterey, San Luis Obispo,
6and Santa Barbara for inclusion in the National Purple Heart Trail,
7and, pursuant to Senate Concurrent Resolution 105, the Legislature
8designated a certain portion of State Highway Route 223 in the
9County of Kern for inclusion in the National Purple Heart Trail;
10and
11WHEREAS, In 2013, pursuant to Senate Concurrent Resolution
1227, the Legislature designated certain portions of State Highway
13Route 101 in the Counties of Santa Barbara and Ventura for
14inclusion in the National Purple Heart Trail; and
15WHEREAS, the County of Colusa Veterans Tribute Wall was
16erected and dedicated on Veterans Day 2014 to recognize the
17honorable service and sacrifices made by all veterans who have
18lived, or do now reside, in the County of Colusa; and
19WHEREAS, the County of Colusa Veterans Tribute Wall is
20located at the junction of State Highways 20 and 45, and is
21accessible via all state highways within the County of Colusa; and
22WHEREAS, The Legislature finds that it is appropriate to
23designate additional portions of the state highway system for
24inclusion in the National Purple Heart Trail in order to honor the
25men and women who have been wounded or killed in combat while
26serving in the United States Armed Forces; now, therefore, be it
27Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
28thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby designates the
29portions of State Highway Routesbegin delete 5,end delete 16, 20, and 45 in the County
30of Colusa for inclusion in the National Purple Heart Trail; and be
31it further
32Resolved, That the Department of Transportation is requested,
33upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering the cost
34of installation and maintenance of appropriate signs, which shall
35include the National Purple Heart Trail logo, consistent with the
36signing requirements for the state highway system, to determine
37the appropriate sign locations and erect those signs; and be it
38further

2of this resolution to the Department of Transportation and to the
3author for appropriate distribution.
