BILL NUMBER: AB 267
VETOED DATE: 10/01/2015
To the Members of the California State Assembly:
I am returning Assembly Bill 267 without my signature.
This bill requires the court to provide a criminal defendant with
information about a wide array of potential consequences of a guilty
plea.
I believe ensuring adequate consideration of the various consequences
of a criminal conviction prior to a guilty plea is the
responsibility of the defendant's counsel, who is best situated to
determine which advisements are appropriate and meaningful to the
defendant.
Sincerely,
Edmund G. Brown Jr.
