BILL TEXT
INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Chu
FEBRUARY 19, 2015
An act relating to public social services.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
AB 433, as introduced, Chu. Public social services: CalWORKs.
Existing federal law provides for the allocation of federal funds
through the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
block grant program to eligible states, with California's version of
this program known as the California Work Opportunity and
Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) program. Under the CalWORKs
program, each county provides cash assistance and other benefits to
qualified low-income families and individuals.
This bill would express the intent of the Legislature to provide a
grieving period and appropriate referrals to services when a
CalWORKs recipient miscarries or when a child in the home of a
CalWORKs recipient dies, without interruption of services.
Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. It is the intent of the Legislature to enact
legislation to provide a grieving period and appropriate referrals to
services when the pregnancy of a woman receiving CalWORKs assistance
results in a miscarriage, or when a child in the home of a parent or
caregiver receiving CalWORKs assistance dies, without interruption
of services.
