   An act to amend Section 267 of the Penal Code, relating to
abduction.



	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


   AB 526, as introduced, Holden. Abduction.
   Existing law provides that any person who takes away another
person under 18 years of age from the father, mother, guardian, or
other person having legal charge of the other person, without their
consent, for the purpose of prostitution, is punishable by
imprisonment in the state prison and a fine not exceeding $2,000.
   This bill would increase the punishment to include a fine not
exceeding $5,000.
   Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.


THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  SECTION 1.  Section 267 of the Penal Code is amended to read:
   267.   Every   Any  person who takes
away any other person under  the age of 18 years 
 18 years of age  from the father, mother, guardian, or
other person having the legal charge of the other person, without
their consent, for the purpose of prostitution, is punishable by
imprisonment in the state prison, and a fine not exceeding 
two thousand dollars ($2,000).   five thousand dollars
($5,000).
