An act to add Section 826.8 to the Welfare and Institutions Code, relating to juveniles.

AB 592, as amended, Mark Stone. Juveniles: proof of dependency or wardship.

Existing law provides that a minor may be adjudged a dependent child or a ward of the juvenile court under specified circumstances. Existing law authorizes the court to place a minor who has been removed from the custody of his or her parent or guardian in foster care, among other placements. Existing law provides for the termination of the juvenile court jurisdiction when the minor reaches a specified age.

This bill would authorize the State Department of Social Services to provide to a person who was previously adjudged a dependent or ward of the juvenile begin delete court and end delete begin insert court, was end insert placed in foster care, begin insert and whose dependency or wardship has been dismissed, end insert upon request by that person, the begin insert information included in the end insert proof of dependency or wardship document, as specified, or any information necessary to provide verification that the person was formerly a dependent or ward of the juvenile court and placed in foster care.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

SECTION 1.  

Section 826.8 is added to the Welfare and
Institutions Code, to read:

826.8.  

Notwithstanding Section begin delete 827, end delete begin insert 827 and in order to assist
with establishing eligibility for programs or services, end insert the State
Department of Social Services may provide to a person who was
previously adjudged a dependent or ward of the juvenile begin delete court and end delete
begin insert court, was end insert placed in foster care, begin insert and whose dependency or
wardship has been dismissed, end insert upon request by that person, the
begin insert information included in the end insert proof of dependency or wardship
document described in begin delete All-County Letter 07-33 and Section
31-525.6 of Chapter 31-500 of Division 31 of the State Department
of Social Services Manual of Policies and Procedures, as it existed
on January 1, 2015, end delete begin insert subparagraph (E) of paragraph (2) of
subdivision (e) of Section 391, end insert or any information necessary to
provide verification that the person was formerly a dependent or
ward of the juvenile court and placed in foster care.
