AB 1497, as introduced, Chau. Peace officers: deadly force.
Existing law authorizes a peace officer who has reasonable cause to believe that a person to be arrested has committed a public offense to use reasonable force to effect the arrest, to prevent escape, or to overcome resistance.
This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation that requires law enforcement agencies to develop written policies relating to the handling of incidents involving the use of deadly force by a peace officer that resulted in the death of a member of the public.
