BILL NUMBER: AB 2089
  VETOED	DATE: 09/29/2016

To the Members of the California State Assembly:

I am returning Assembly Bill 2089 without my signature.

This bill requires a county elections official to notify a
vote-by-mail voter if their ballot was not counted and the reason it
was not counted.

This bill is unnecessary. Currently, law requires a county elections
official to establish a free access system that allows a vote-by-mail
voter to learn whether his or her ballot was counted, and if not,
the reason why the ballot was not counted. I believe this is
sufficient.

Sincerely,

Edmund G. Brown Jr.
