Existing law provides for the certification and regulation of podiatrists by the California Board of Podiatric Medicine within the jurisdiction of the Medical Board of California. Under existing law, provisions establishing the California Board of Podiatric Medicine will be repealed on January 1, 2017.

This bill would extend the operation of the California Board of Podiatric Medicine until January 1,begin delete 2021.end deletebegin insert 2021, and make nonsubstantive changes.end insert

Existing law, the Physician Assistant Practice Act, provides for the licensure and regulation of physician assistants by the Physician Assistant Board, which is within the jurisdiction of the Medical Board of California, and authorizes the Physician Assistant Board, except as specified, to employ personnel necessary to carry out the provisions of that act, including an executive officer. Existing law repeals provisions establishing the Physician Assistant Board and the authorization for the board to employ personnel as of January 1, 2017.begin insert Existing law establishes the Physician Assistant Fund and authorizes all money in the fund to be used to carry out the provisions of the Physician Assistant Practice Act.end insert

Section 2460 of the Business and Professions

(a) There is created within the jurisdiction of the Medical
4Board of California the California Board of Podiatric Medicine.

5(b) This section shall remain in effect only until January 1, 2021,
6and as of that date is repealed. Notwithstanding any other law, the
7repeal of this section renders the California Board of Podiatric
8Medicine subject to review by the appropriate policy committees
9of the Legislature.

There is in the State Treasury the Board of Podiatric
13Medicine Fund. Notwithstanding Section 2445, the division shall
14report to the Controller at the beginning of each calendar month
15for the month preceding the amount and source of all revenue
16received by it on behalf of the board, pursuant to this chapter, and
17shall pay the entire amount thereof to the Treasurer for deposit
18into the fund. All revenue received by the board and the division
19from fees authorized to be charged relating to the practice of
20podiatric medicine shall be deposited in the fund as provided in
21this section, and shall bebegin delete usedend deletebegin insert available, upon appropriation of
22the Legislature,end insert
to carry out the provisions of this chapter relating
23to the regulation of the practice of podiatric medicine.

Section 3504 of the Business and Professions Code is

There is established a Physician Assistant Board within
5the jurisdiction of the Medical Board of California. The board
6consists of nine members. This section shall remain in effect only
7until January 1, 2021, and as of that date is repealed.

Section 3512 of the Business and Professions Code is

(a) Except as provided in Sections 159.5 and 2020, the
15board shall employ within the limits of the Physician Assistant
16Fund all personnel necessary to carry out this chapter including
17an executive officer who shall be exempt from civil service. The
18Medical Board of California and board shall make all necessary
19expenditures to carry out this chapter from the funds established
20by Section 3520. The board may accept contributions to effect the
21purposes of this chapter.

22(b) This section shall remain in effect only until January 1, 2021,
23and as of that date is repealed.
