   An act to amend Section 19 of the Penal Code, relating to crimes.


	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


   AB 2417, as introduced, Cooley. Crimes: misdemeanors.
   Existing law provides that except in cases where a different
punishment is prescribed by law, every offense declared to be a
misdemeanor is punishable by imprisonment in the county jail not
exceeding 6 months, or by a fine not exceeding $1,000, or by both the
fine and imprisonment.
   This bill would make technical, nonsubstantive changes to that
provision.
   Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.


THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  SECTION 1.  Section 19 of the Penal Code is amended to read:
   19.  Except in cases where a different punishment is prescribed by
any law of this state, every offense declared to be a misdemeanor is
punishable by imprisonment in  the   a 
county jail not exceeding six months,  or  by  a
 fine not exceeding one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by
 both.   both that fine and imprisonment.
