Under existing law, the Public Utilities Commission has regulatory authority over public utilities, including common carriers, as defined, subject to the preemptive authority of Congress pursuant to the Commerce Clause of the United States Constitution. The Public Utilities Act requires the tariff schedules of carriers to be produced and made available for inspection upon the demand of any person.
This bill would make nonsubstantive changes to that provision.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:
Section 488 of the Public Utilities Code is
2amended to read:

4prescribe, the schedules of carriers shall be produced and made
5available for inspection upon the demand of any person. The form
6ofbegin delete every suchend deletebegin insert aend insert schedule shall be prescribed
by the commission
7and shall conform, in the case of any common carrier subject to
P2 1federalbegin delete regulationend deletebegin insert
regulation,end insert as nearly as possible to the form of
2schedules prescribed by the federal Surface Transportation Board.
3(b) Subdivision (a) is not applicable to network railroad
4transportation.
