An act to amend Section 1840 of the Military and Veterans Code, relating to veterans.

Existing law requires the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to develop guidance policies relative to the release of veterans who are inmates to assist them in pursuing claims for federal veterans’ benefits, or in establishing rights to any other privilege, preference, care, or compensation provided under federal or state law because of honorable service in the military.

This bill would make technical, nonsubstantive changes to this provision.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

SECTION 1.  

Section 1840 of the Military and Veterans Code
2 is amended to read:

The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation shall

5are inmates. The policies shall be developed with the intent to
6assist veterans who are inmates in pursuing claims for federal
7veterans’ benefits, or in establishing rights to any other privilege,
