An act to amend Section 95.1 of the Penal Code, relating to
crimes.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
AB 2836, as introduced, Chu. Crimes: obstruction of justice:
threatening a juror.
Existing law makes a person who threatens a juror with respect to
a criminal proceeding in which a verdict has been rendered and who
has the intent and apparent ability to carry out the threat so as to
cause the target of the threat to reasonably fear for his or her
safety or the safety of his or her immediate family, guilty of a
public offense, punishable by imprisonment in a county jail for not
more than one year, or by imprisonment in a county jail for 16
months, or 2 or 3 years, by a fine of no more than $10,000, or by
both that fine and imprisonment.
This bill would make technical, nonsubstantive changes to that
provision.

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Section 95.1 of the Penal Code is amended to read:
95.1. Every A person who threatens
a juror with respect to a criminal proceeding in which a verdict has
been rendered and who has the intent and apparent ability to carry
out the threat so as to cause the target of the threat to reasonably
fear for his or her safety or the safety of his or her immediate
family, is guilty of a public offense and shall be punished by
imprisonment in a county jail for not more than one year, or by
imprisonment pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170, or
by a fine not exceeding of no more
than ten thousand dollars ($10,000), or by both that
imprisonment and fine.
