ANALYSIS: This resolution makes the following legislative findings: 1.Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis is one of the nearly 7,000 diseases and conditions that are considered rare. It is a serious disorder causing progressive, incurable lung disease. 2.Approximately 132,000 people in the United States are estimated to have Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. It may be 5 to 10 times more prevalent than previously thought because Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis is often misdiagnosed and under diagnosed. 3.There is a need to increase awareness and detection of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis by expanding education and promoting access to quality care and services for this SCR 19 Page 2 disease. 4.February 28, 2015, is Rare Disease Day in California. This resolution proclaims February 28, 2015, as Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Day in coordination with Rare Disease Day in California.
