SUBJECT: Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Day

DIGEST: This resolution proclaims February 28, 2015, as
Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Day in coordination with
Rare Disease Day in California.
ANALYSIS: This resolution makes the following legislative
findings:
1.Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis is one of the nearly 7,000
diseases and conditions that are considered rare. It is a
serious disorder causing progressive, incurable lung disease.
2.Approximately 132,000 people in the United States are
estimated to have Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. It may be 5
to 10 times more prevalent than previously thought because
Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis is often misdiagnosed and under
diagnosed.
3.There is a need to increase awareness and detection of
Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis by expanding education and
promoting access to quality care and services for this

4.February 28, 2015, is Rare Disease Day in California.
This resolution proclaims February 28, 2015, as Idiopathic
Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Day in coordination with Rare
Disease Day in California.
Related Legislation

Disease Day in California. The resolution was adopted by the
