Introduced:1/12/15 Vote: 21 SUBJECT: Santa Fe, Argentina: sister state relationship SOURCE: Author DIGEST: This resolution expresses the intent and commitment of the state to enter into a sister state relationship with the Province of Santa Fe, Argentina. ANALYSIS: This resolution makes the following legislative findings: 1.The State of California and the Province of Santa Fe, through reciprocal legislative exchanges, have cultivated a strong bilateral relationship based on shared interests that include higher education, trade, investments, and agriculture. 2.Santa Fe has numerous emerging markets that are a potential hub for California investment and trade opportunities. 3.Santa Fe and California both have a reputation for being major gateways for import and export due to world class shipping centers and railroad terminals. 4.A sister state relationship between Santa Fe and California SCR 6 Page 2 would promote the likelihood of mutually beneficial joint research projects between universities and businesses of the two regions. 5.Santa Fe and California have temperate climates and fertile ground conducive to agriculture and the two regions have capitalized on these conditions to create prolific export-oriented agricultural sectors with dairy being a key component to both. 6.Santa Fe and California face many of the same challenges, such as the need for substantial new investment in infrastructure and the need for sustainable energy solutions. This resolution expresses the intent and commitment of the state to enter into a sister state relationship with the Province of Santa Fe, Argentina to encourage and facilitate social, economic, scientific, educational, and cultural exchanges to further promote the prosperity of both regions and to improve international understanding and goodwill between both regions.
