This measure would declare that the Legislature of the State of California supports finding the best long-term solution for peace andbegin delete disarmamentend deletebegin insert securityend insert in the Middle East and a nuclear-free Iran, and believes that any agreement signed with Iran should provide for ongoing international oversight.

2to promote peace and prosperity across the globe; and

3WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of California
4recognizes the importance of maintaining a diplomatic dialogue
5in the Middle East, especially as it pertains to Israel and Iran; and

6WHEREAS, The proliferation of nuclear capability in the Middle
7East will certainly present additional complications in an already
8diplomatically tense region; and

9WHEREAS, The Nuclear Weapon Free Iran Act of 2015 was
10designed to strengthen American diplomatic efforts with Iran; and

11WHEREAS, The Nuclear Weapon Free Iran Act of 2015
12complies with the commitment the President made that the United
P2    1States would impose no new sanctions during the course of
2negotiations with Iran; and

6WHEREAS, The proposed agreement being presently negotiated
7will have a sunset period after which the future of international
8oversight on Iran’s nuclear ambitions may be unclear; now,

10Resolved by the Senate and the Assembly of the State of
11California, jointly,
That the Legislature of the State of California
12supports finding the best long-term solution for peace and
13begin delete disarmamentend deletebegin insert securityend insert in the Middle East and a nuclear-free Iran;
14and be it further

15Resolved, That the Legislature of the State of California believes
16if any agreement is signed with Iran, the agreement should provide
17for ongoing international oversight and Iran’s cooperation in
18maintaining transparency with its nuclear ambitions; and be it
19further

20Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
21this resolution to the President and the Vice President of the United
22States, to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, to the
23Majority Leader of the Senate, to each Senator and Representative
24from California in the Congress of the United States, and to the
25author for appropriate distribution.
