Senate Resolution No. 10—Relative to the Liberation of Auschwitz, 70th anniversary.

P1    1WHEREAS, One million Jews and thousands of others were
2persecuted, tortured, and ultimately killed in the gas chambers at
3Auschwitz; and

4WHEREAS, On January 27, 1945, the Soviet army liberated
5over 7,000 remaining prisoners; and

6WHEREAS, History ignored allows history to repeat itself; and

7WHEREAS, Ethnic and religious cleansings ignoring basic
8human rights continue to claim innocent lives in all corners of the
9globe; and

10WHEREAS, Anti-Semitism is growing nationally in our
11universities and internationally at alarming rates; and

12WHEREAS, The number of living witnesses to the atrocities in
13Europe decreases every year; now, therefore, be it

14Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That this 27th
15day of January 2015, is commemorated as the 70th anniversary of
16the liberation of Auschwitz, and that the Senate, along with the
17people of California, mourns the loss of six million Jewish people
18in the Holocaust; and be it further

19Resolved, That the California State Senate condemns any efforts
20to strip any person of his or her basic human rights and seeks to
21protect the civil rights and liberties of all people, regardless of
22race, color, creed, or sexual orientation, and further seeks to set
23an example that all people shall be respected and shall have the
24freedom to live a life in peace with all the protections afforded by
P2    1the Constitution of the State of California and the Constitution of
2the United States; and be it further

3Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
4this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
