   Relative to the Liberation of Auschwitz, 70th anniversary


	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
             HOUSE OR SENATE RESOLUTIONS DO NOT CONTAIN A DIGEST



   WHEREAS, One million Jews and thousands of others were persecuted,
tortured, and ultimately killed in the gas chambers at Auschwitz;
and
   WHEREAS, On January 27, 1945, the Soviet army liberated over 7,000
remaining prisoners; and
   WHEREAS, History ignored allows history to repeat itself; and
   WHEREAS, Ethnic and religious cleansings ignoring basic human
rights continue to claim innocent lives in all corners of the globe;
and
   WHEREAS, Anti-Semitism is growing nationally in our universities
and internationally at alarming rates; and
   WHEREAS, The number of living witnesses to the atrocities in
Europe decreases every year; now, therefore, be it
   Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That this 27th
day of January 2015, is commemorated as the 70th anniversary of the
Liberation of Auschwitz, and that the Senate, along with the people
of California, mourns the loss of six million Jewish people in the
Holocaust; and be it further
   Resolved,  That the California State Senate condemns any efforts
to strip any person of his or her basic human rights and seeks to
protect the civil rights and liberties of all people, regardless of
race, color, creed, or sexual orientation, and further seeks to set
an example that all people shall be respected and shall have the
freedom to live a life in peace with all the protections afforded by
the Constitution of the State of California and the Constitution of
the United States; and be it further
   Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this
resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
