           SUBJECT  :    Liberation of Auschwitz, 70th anniversary

           DIGEST  :    This resolution commemorates January 27, 2015, as the  
          70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, and mourns the  
          loss of six million Jewish people in the Holocaust.

           ANALYSIS  :    This resolution states that one million Jews and  
          thousands of others were persecuted, tortured, and ultimately  
          killed in the gas chambers at Auschwitz; and on January 27,  
          1945, the Soviet army liberated over 7,000 remaining prisoners. 

          This resolution provides that the State Senate condemns any  
          efforts to strip any person of his/her basic human rights and  
          seeks to protect the civil rights and liberties of all people,  
          regardless of race, color, creed, or sexual orientation, and  
          seeks to set an example that all people shall be respected and  
          shall have the freedom to live a life in peace with all the  
          protections afforded by the California Constitution and the  
          United States Constitution.
