Senate Resolution No. 25—Relative to California Day of the Teacher.

P1    1WHEREAS, Education and knowledge are the foundation of
2America’s current and future strength; and

3WHEREAS, Every child is born with great promise and deserves
4a chance to achieve their dreams; and

5WHEREAS, A great education is the key to unlocking our
6children’s potential and empowering them with the drive,
7knowledge, and skills to fulfill those dreams; and

8WHEREAS, A great education cannot happen without great
9teachers; and

10WHEREAS, Great teachers can make a lasting impact on a
11child’s life; and

12WHEREAS, Great teachers in California are nurturing our next
13generation of innovators, leaders, thinkers, doers, dreamers, and
14artists and preparing them to meet the challenges of our future;
15and

16WHEREAS, Great teachers in California are also among the
17most civic-minded of our citizens, volunteering their time and
18contributing to the well-being of their communities; and

19WHEREAS, Great teachers in California have been responsible
20for educating the professionals, the workers, the entrepreneurs,
21the public officials, the first responders, and the service providers
22that enable our communities to flourish; and

23WHEREAS, Californians everywhere have stories to share about
24how it was a teacher that inspired them to strive, to attain, and to
25succeed in life; and

P2    1WHEREAS, We need to raise public awareness of the
2unquantifiable contributions of teachers and to promote greater
3respect and understanding for the teaching profession; and

4WHEREAS, We want to take a day to acknowledge all the great
5teachers in California and honor them with our gratitude and
6thanks; now, therefore, be it

7Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That the Senate
8declares May 13, 2015, as California Day of the Teacher; and be
9it further

10Resolved, That the Senate also urges all Californians to
11remember the importance of good teaching in our classrooms and
12how good schools strengthen our communities; and be it further

13Resolved, That the Senate calls upon students, parents, and all
14Californians to recognize the hard work and dedication of all great
15teachers in our state and to observe this California Day of the
16Teacher by supporting teachers through appropriate activities,
17events, and programs; and be it further

18Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
19this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
