SUBJECT: Clean Air Month

DIGEST: This resolution declares May 2015 as Clean Air Month in
California.
ANALYSIS: This resolution makes the following legislative
findings:
1)Clean air is vital and important to our health, environment,
and economy.
2)Certain groups are especially vulnerable to the effects of air
pollution, such as infants, older adults, and people with lung
diseases, including asthma, cystic fibrosis, and scleroderma.
3)Particulate matter air pollution, especially fine particles,
can be inhaled deeply into the lungs and cause serious damage,
including asthma attacks, respiratory illness, lung cancer,
heart attacks, strokes, and premature death.
4)According to the American Lung Association's 2015 State of the
Air Report, 14 cities in California top the national list of

cities most polluted by year-round particle pollution.
5)Clean Air Month is designed to raise public awareness about
the need for every Californian to work to reduce air
pollution.
This resolution declares May 2015 as Clean Air Month in
California; and acknowledges Californians are working to help
limit the pollutants that impede our state's air quality for the
health of all our state's residents and particularly for those
at greater risk, including infants, the elderly, and people with
lung diseases.
