P1 1WHEREAS, A terrorist attack, natural disaster, or other
2emergency could strike any part of the United States at any time;
3and
4WHEREAS, Natural and manmade emergencies disrupt
5hundreds of thousands of lives each year, often resulting in death
6and causing serious injuries and billions of dollars in property
7damage; and
8WHEREAS, Federal, state, and local officials, as well as private
9and nonprofit organizations, are working to mitigate against,
10prevent, and respond to all types of emergencies, and the people
11of California can help promote the overall emergency preparedness
12of the nation by preparing for these emergencies; and
13WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management
14Agency in the United States Department of Homeland Security,
15National Preparedness Month provides an opportunity to highlight
16the importance of public emergency preparedness and to encourage
17people in communities throughout the country to take steps to be
18better prepared for emergencies at home, work, and school; and
19WHEREAS, By taking such steps as assembling emergency
20supply kits, creating family emergency plans, staying informed
21about possible emergencies, and obtaining reasonable levels of
22insurance, the people of California and the nation can be better
23prepared when disaster strikes; and
24WHEREAS, During the twelfth annual National Preparedness
25Month in September 2015, activities promoting emergency
P2 1preparedness will be offered in communities across the country;
2now, therefore, be it
3Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That the Senate
4recognizes September 2015 as National Preparedness Month, and
5commends the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the
6more than 3,000 national, regional, and local public and private
7organizations who join in the countrywide effort to raise awareness
8of the importance of emergency preparedness; and be it further
9Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
10this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
