Senate Resolution No. 41—Relative to National Preparedness Month.

P1    1WHEREAS, A terrorist attack, natural disaster, or other
2emergency could strike any part of the United States at any time;
3and

4WHEREAS, Natural and manmade emergencies disrupt
5hundreds of thousands of lives each year, often resulting in death
6and causing serious injuries and billions of dollars in property
7damage; and

8WHEREAS, Federal, state, and local officials, as well as private
9and nonprofit organizations, are working tobegin delete mitigate against,end delete
10begin insert mitigate,end insert prevent, and respond to all types of emergencies, and the
11people of California can help promote the overall emergency
12preparedness of the nation by preparing for these emergencies;
13and

14WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management
15Agency in the United States Department of Homeland Security,
16National Preparedness Month provides an opportunity to highlight
17the importance of public emergency preparedness and to encourage
18people in communities throughout the country to take steps to be
19better prepared for emergencies at home, work, and school; and

20WHEREAS, National Preparedness Month provides an
21opportunity to recognize the Governor’s Office of Emergency
22Services and commend its leadership and service to the public in
23emergency preparedness; and

2supply kits, creating family emergency plans, staying informed
3about possible emergencies, and obtaining reasonable levels of
4insurance, the people of California and the nation can be better
5prepared when disaster strikes; and

6WHEREAS, During the twelfth annual National Preparedness
7Month in September 2015, activities promoting emergency
8preparedness will be offered in communities across the country;
9now, therefore, be it

10Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That the Senate
11recognizes September 2015 as National Preparedness Month, and
12commends the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the
13more than 3,000 national, regional,begin insert state,end insert and local public and
14private organizations who join in the countrywide effort to raise
15awareness of the importance of emergency preparedness; and be
16it further

17Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
18this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
