P1 1WHEREAS, Massage therapy is beneficial to overall health and
2is increasingly part of integrated health care; and
3WHEREAS, Consumers are spending in excess of $12 billion
4to $17 billion annually on massage therapy, and more insurance
5companies are covering massage therapy; and
6WHEREAS, Therapeutic massage can benefit people of all ages;
7and
8WHEREAS, A growing body of clinical research shows that
9massage therapy is beneficial for a wide variety of health issues,
10including stress, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, arthritis, back
11pain, muscle injury and soreness, headaches, and maintaining good
12health; and
13WHEREAS, In order to ensure patient and public safety,
14California regulates the massage therapy profession, and certified
15massage therapists must comply with various legal requirements
16in order to practice, including completing a certain minimum
17number of hours of initial training and passing an examination;
18and
19WHEREAS, Massage therapists consistently provide consumer
20and professional education information on massage and help
21consumers and health professionals locate qualified massage
22therapists in their area; now, therefore, be it
23Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That the Senate
24proclaims the week of October 25, 2015, to October 31, 2015,
P2 1inclusive, as Massage Therapy Awareness Week in California;
2and be it further
3Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
4this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
