Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 70—Relative to Student Safety Month.

SCR 70, as introduced, Bates. Student Safety Month.

This bill would designate the month of June 2015 as Student Safety Month, and would recognize the importance of providing young people with a learning environment and foundation that will promote successful careers and that will be the force to help California grow and prosper.

P1    1WHEREAS, In the State of California, children, youth, and
2young adults under 25 years of age comprise roughly one-third of
3the state’s population; and

4WHEREAS, The youth of California are among the state’s
5greatest assets, and are an important indicator of our future
6prosperity. The youth of the state are tomorrow’s entrepreneurs,
7educators, and community leaders, and need the education and
8training to participate and succeed in the global economy; and

9WHEREAS, All California children deserve a safe and
10high-quality education; and

11WHEREAS, The safety and well-being of many students,
12teachers, and school staff are unnecessarily jeopardized by crime,
13violence, and other issues, such as substance abuse, gangs,
14vandalism, and absenteeism in our schools; and

P2    1WHEREAS, Students should be assured of a safe elementary
2and secondary education that is free from disruption so that they
3are prepared to either enter into the workforce or start a successful
4college career; now, therefore, be it

5Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly
6thereof concurring,
That the Legislature designates the month of
7June 2015 as Student Safety Month; and be it further

8Resolved, That the Legislature recognizes the importance of
9providing young people with a learning environment and
10foundation that will promote successful careers and that will be
11the force to help California grow and prosper; and be it further

12Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
13this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
