This bill would designate the month of June 2015 as Student Safety Month, and would recognize the importance of providing young people with a learning environment and foundation that will promote successful careers and that will be the force to help California grow and prosper.

P1 1WHEREAS, In the State of California, children, youth, and
2young adults under 25 years of age comprise roughly one-third of
3the state’s population; and
4WHEREAS, The youth of California are among the state’s
5greatest assets, and are an important indicator of our future
6prosperity. The youth of the state are tomorrow’s entrepreneurs,
7educators, and community leaders, and need the education and
8training to participate and succeed in the global economy; and
9WHEREAS, The youth of California are human beings entitled
10to dignity, respect, equality, and a life free from violence and
11harassment. Violence and harassment can have lifelong negative
P2 1impacts on an individual’s self-esteem, mental and physical health,
2growth, and opportunity for advancement; and
3WHEREAS, All California children deserve a safe and
4high-quality education; and
5WHEREAS, The safety and well-being of many students,
6teachers, and school staff arebegin delete unnecessarilyend delete jeopardized by crime,
7violence, and other issues, such as substance abuse, gangs,
8vandalism,begin insert sexual violence, harassment, bullying,end insert and absenteeism
9in our schools; and
10WHEREAS, Students should bebegin delete assuredend deletebegin insert ensuredend insert of a safe
11elementary and secondary education that is free from disruption
12so that theybegin insert can grow and develop in healthy and positive ways
13and lead happy and fulfilling lives andend insert are prepared to either enter
14into the workforce or start a successful college career; now,

16Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly
17thereof concurring, That the Legislature designates the month of
18June 2015 as Student Safety Month; and be it further
19Resolved, That the Legislature recognizes the importance of
20providing young people with a learning environment and
21foundation that will promote successful careers and that will be
22the force to help California grow and prosper; and be it further
23Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
24this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
