SUBJECT: Student Safety Month

DIGEST: This resolution designates the month of June 2015 as
Student Safety Month, and recognizes the importance of providing
young people with a learning environment and foundation that
will promote successful careers and that will be the force to
help California grow and prosper.
Assembly Amendments add a provision relating to violence and
harassment, make a clarifying change, and add coauthors.

ANALYSIS: This resolution makes the following legislative
findings:
1)The youth of California are among the state's greatest assets,
and are an important indicator of our future prosperity. The
youth of the state are tomorrow's entrepreneurs, educators,
and community leaders, and need the education and training to
participate and succeed in the global economy.
2)The safety and well-being of many students, teachers, and
school staff are jeopardized by crime, violence, and other
issues, such as substance abuse, gangs, vandalism, sexual
violence, harassment, bullying, and absenteeism in our
schools.
3)All California children deserve a safe and high-quality
education.
This resolution designates the month of June 2015 as Student
