This measure would request that thebegin insert State Park and Recreation Commission, working with theend insert Department of Parks andbegin delete Recreationend deletebegin insert Recreation,end insert rename Annadel State Park in the County of Sonoma as Trione Annadel State Park, and, upon the receipt of donations from nonstate sources sufficient to cover the cost, install new signs reflecting the name change.

P1 1WHEREAS, Annadel State Park, located in the historic Valley
2of the Moon, an area popularized by author Jack London, became
3a state park in 1971, and includes over 5,000 acres of rolling hills,
4seasonal streams, meadows, trails, and woodlands, all located near
5a major metropolitan area in Sonoma County; and
6WHEREAS, The Sonoma County Regional Parks department
7serves the social, cultural, and outdoor recreation needs of the
8people of Sonoma County through the operation and maintenance
9of 49 regional parks and has assisted the state in serving the park
P2 1needs of citizens statewide with the operation and maintenance of
2Annadel State Park; and
3WHEREAS, Annadel State Park in Sonoma County, originally
4named the Annadel Ranch State Park, is one of the most widely
5used parks in the state parks system; and
6WHEREAS, Henry Trione was a long-term resident of Sonoma
7County before his death at the age of 94 years and was a true
8“Renaissance Californian” who created a legacy across Sonoma
9County and the entire north coast region; and
10WHEREAS, Henry Trione’s most significant and enduring
11contribution to Sonoma County and the State of California is
12widely acknowledged to be the creation of Annadel State Park in
13a wooded wilderness area overlooking the Santa Rosa plain that
14was slated for residential development; and
15WHEREAS, It is widely recognized that Annadel State Park
16would not exist today were it not for the personal tenacity of Henry
17Trione and his initial personal contribution of $1 million to preserve
18the 5,000-acre property; and
19WHEREAS, Henry Trione’s actions to create Annadel State
20Park are remarkable because they occurred long before the
21importance of such public spaces closely linked to urban
22development was widely understood; and
23WHEREAS, In 2012 the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors
24recognized Henry Trione for his exceptional contributions to
25Annadel State Park and other local parks and bestowed upon him
26the title of “Honorary Regional Parks Ranger”; and
27WHEREAS, The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors and the
28Santa Rosa City Council have each voted unanimously to urge the
29State of California to similarly recognize Henry Trione and his
30achievements with respect to Annadel State Park, while retaining
31Annadel in the park’s name; now, therefore, be it
32Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly
33thereof concurring, That the Legislature requests that thebegin insert State
34Park and Recreation Commission, working with theend insert Department
35of Parks andbegin delete Recreationend deletebegin insert Recreation,end insert rename Annadel State Park
36as Trione Annadel State Park and, upon receipt of donations from
37nonstate sources sufficient to cover the cost, install new signs
38reflecting the name change; and be it further

2this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
