This measure would recognize the month of November 2015 as the Nursing Home Caregiver Professionals and Long Term Care Provider Month.

P1 1WHEREAS, There are 136,000 skilled nursing home
2professionals in California, of which 47,000 workers deliver quality
3institutional care to our most vulnerable residents, including
4seniors, adults, and children with disabilities in California; and
5WHEREAS, The number of seniors requiring long term care
6will drastically increase as the number of Californians who are 65
7years of age or older is estimated to grow to nine million people
8in the next 15 years; and
9WHEREAS, All nursing home residents deserve quality care
10and their direct care professionals merit a safe working environment
11to help individuals recover from surgery and heal from trauma;
12and
P2 1WHEREAS, Nursing home caregivers provide essential services
2to residents that maintain the highest practicable physical, mental,
3and psychosocial well being of the people they serve; and
4WHEREAS, A fundamental part of providing quality long term
5care is having a sufficient number of direct care staff available to
6build rapport with consumers and treat consumers in a dignified
7manner; and
8WHEREAS, The work of nursing home caregivers often goes
9unnoticed, as do the financial struggles caregivers and their families
10experience in order to provide this lifeline service to those in need;
11and
12WHEREAS, Increasing the number of nursing home caregivers
13in facilities across the state is an integral part of quality care; and
14WHEREAS, Providing long-term care workers with a living
15wage will generate the demand for goods and services in the local
16economy, stimulate increased employment opportunities, and drive
17workers and their families one step closer to getting out of poverty;
18now, therefore, be it
19Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly
20thereof concurring, That the Legislature recognizes the month of
21November 2015 as Nursing Home Caregiver Professionals and
22Long Term Care Provider Month, and that the Legislature stands
23united with nursing home direct care professionals, acknowledging
24the essential work and contributions they bring to counties and
25cities of the state and supporting their efforts to lift themselves
26and their communities out of poverty; and be it further
27Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
28this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
