P1 1WHEREAS, Tens of millions of Americans are affected by
2urological diseases and conditions, including urinary incontinence,
3overactive bladder, underactive bladder, interstitial cystitis,
4nocturia, urinary tract infections, bladder cancer, urotrauma, and
5neurogenic bladder; and
6WHEREAS, Urological diseases and conditions have significant
7impact on health and quality of life--contributing to depression,
8social isolation, falls, sexual dysfunction, loss of self-esteem,
9hospitalizations, nursing home admissions, and even death; and
10WHEREAS, Medical and behavioral research to better
11understand and maintain bladder health and treat bladder diseases
12is critically needed, yet poorly recognized; and
13WHEREAS, Bladder problems are highly stigmatized, and open
14dialogue generated by Urological Health Month can reduce stigma
15and empower providers and patients to have much needed
16conversations about bladder health; now, therefore, be it
17Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That the Senate
18designates the month of November 2016 as Urological Health
19Month; and be it further
20Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
21this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
