Senate Resolution No. 73—Relative to Áo Dài Day.

P1    1WHEREAS, The Month of May has been designated as Asian
2and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month; and

3WHEREAS, Vietnamese Americans living in California and
4elsewhere in the United States desire to contribute to and share
5their cultural heritage with the City of San Jose, the County of
6Orange, and other municipalities in the United States; and

7WHEREAS, The Vietnamese traditional long gown, known as
8the Áo Dài, has long been recognized as the symbol of cultural
9aesthetics and pride of people of Vietnamese descent; and

10WHEREAS, To contribute to the people of the city of San Jose
11and the County of Orange, and to celebrate the diversity of
12American society, the Vietnamese American community has held
13a community event known as the Áo Dài Festival on a biennial
14basis; and

15WHEREAS, The Áo Dài Festival will be held in San Jose during
16Asian Pacific Islander American Heritage Month in 2016; and

17WHEREAS, The Vietnamese American community desires to
18designate a special day to invite all residents of California to share
19in its cultural heritage by wearing the Vietnamese Áo Dài; and

20WHEREAS, Vietnamese Americans now petition that May 15th
21be designated as Áo Dài Day; now, therefore, be it

22Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That May 15,
232016, shall be recognized as Áo Dài Day; and be it further

P2    1Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
2this resolution to the author for distribution.
