Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 138—Relative to state park rangers.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

SCR 138, as introduced, Nielsen. State park rangers.

This measure would recognize 2016 as the 150-year anniversary of public service and protection of state parks by state park rangers and would encourage the Department of Parks and Recreation, the California State Park Rangers Association, and the California State Parks Anniversary Committee to take all appropriate action to celebrate that anniversary.

P1    1WHEREAS, Galen Clark was appointed “Guardian” of Yosemite
2State Park in 1866, at California’s first state park, Yosemite,
3established in 1866 by federal legislation signed by President
4Abraham Lincoln; and

5WHEREAS, State park rangers, whose titles have variously
6been “ranger,” “guardian,” “warden,” “custodian,” or
7“superintendent,” have continuously served the public and
8protected the state parks since that first appointment; and

P2    1WHEREAS, 2016 will mark the 150-year anniversary of service
2to the public and protection of state parks by state park rangers;
3and

4WHEREAS, The Department of Parks and Recreation, the
5California State Park Rangers Association, the California State
6Parks Anniversary Committee, and the State Park and Recreation
7Commission have formally recognized and are supporting the
8celebration of the 150-year anniversary; now, therefore, be it

9Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly
10thereof concurring,
That the Legislature recognizes and commends
11state park rangers for their long and faithful service to the public
12and protection of state parks; and be it further

13Resolved, That 2016 is recognized as the 150-year anniversary
14of public service and protection of state parks by state park rangers;
15and be it further

16Resolved, That the Department of Parks and Recreation, the
17California State Park Rangers Association, and the California State
18Parks Anniversary Committee are encouraged to take all
19appropriate action to celebrate the 150-year anniversary; and be
20it further

21Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
22this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
