This measure would designate a specified portion of Interstate Highway 80 in Placer County as thebegin delete Detectiveend deletebegin insert Deputy Sheriffend insert Michael D. The measure would request the Department of Transportation to determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering that cost, to erect those signs.

2Bellflower, California, on October 29, 1971. He moved to Placer
3County in 1995 to pursue a career in law enforcement. He was
4initially hired by the Auburn Police Department and joined the
5Placer County Sheriff’s Office in 1999 as a patrol deputy.begin delete He

Davis coached baseball in the Woodcreek Little League
8for many years. Family and police work were “where his heart

Davis’ brother Jason, his wife Jessica, and aunt and uncle

2record and was known for his respect, tact, and empathy toward
3those he served; and

4WHEREAS, Off-duty,begin delete Detectiveend deletebegin insert Deputy Sheriffend insert Davis was the
5one who made everyone laugh at family gatherings. He had great
6stories, a quick wit, and no filter, according to his brother Jason.
7begin delete Detectiveend deletebegin insert Deputy Sheriffend insert Davis served his community with
8everything that he had. He was a loving husband and father who
9adored all of his children. As a coach he mentored other children;

11WHEREAS,begin delete Detectiveend deletebegin insert Deputy Sheriffend insert Davis was justbegin delete 17 years
12of ageend delete
begin insert five days short of his 17th birthdayend insert when his father, for
13whom he was named, was killed while on assignment with the
14Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.begin delete Detectiveend deletebegin insert Deputy Sheriffend insert
15 Davis had two younger brothers, Jason and Christopher. According
16to Jason, Michael instantly assumed a parental role as a big brother
17and helped raise his two younger brothers. When the younger boys
18were troubled or woke from nightmares, they went to Michael’s
19room for comfort. Michael taught them to play baseball, and he
20always included his two younger brothers in his group of older
21friends.begin delete Detectiveend deletebegin insert Deputy Sheriffend insert Davis was always coaching and
22inspiring those around him to be better; and

23WHEREAS,begin delete Detective Davisend deletebegin insert Deputy Sheriff Davis, who was
24on assignment as an acting detective,end insert
was gunned down in the
25City of Auburn at 42 years of age, on October 24, 2014, 26 years
26to the day after his father perished in a helicopter crash during a
27police mission in southern California. The shooting rampage that
28claimedbegin delete Detectiveend deletebegin insert Deputy Sheriffend insert Davis’ life began in a Motel 6
29parking lot in Sacramento and also killed Sacramento County
30Sheriff’s Deputy Danny Oliver. Authorities have charged Luis
31Enrique Monroy-Bracamonte and his wife, Janelle Marquez
32Monroy, with the murder of a peace officer. When he died,
33begin delete Detectiveend deletebegin insert Deputy Sheriffend insert Davis wasbegin insert on assignment asend insert a homicide
34detective in the Crimes Against Persons unit. In addition to his
35wife Jessica,begin insert Deputy Sheriffend insert Davis is survived by daughters
36Angelique and Samantha, stepchildren Ivey and Chayse, his mother
37Deborah, and his grandparents Bob and Joan Davis; now, therefore,

39Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly
40thereof concurring,
That the Legislature hereby designates the
P3    1portion of Interstate Highway 80 in Placer County at the Horseshoe
2Bar Road Interchange, as thebegin delete Detectiveend deletebegin insert Deputy Sheriffend insert Michael D.
3Davis, Jr. Memorial Highway; and be it further

4Resolved, That the Department of Transportation is requested
5to determine the cost of appropriate signs consistent with the
6signing requirements for the state highway system showing this
7special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate
8sources sufficient to cover the cost, to erect those signs; and be it
9further

10Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
11this resolution to the Director of Transportation and to the author
12for appropriate distribution.
