BILL ANALYSIS Ó SCR 152 Page 1 Date of Hearing: August 29, 2016 ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORTATION Jim Frazier, Chair SCR 152 (Gaines) - As Amended August 18, 2016 SENATE VOTE: 37-0 SUBJECT: Deputy Sheriff Danny P. Oliver Memorial Highway SUMMARY: Designates a portion of United States Highway Route 50 (US 50) in El Dorado County as the "Deputy Sheriff Danny P. Oliver Memorial Highway." Specifically, this resolution: 1)Recounts the life and accomplishments of Danny P. Oliver, a deputy sheriff in the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department. 2)Designates the portion of US 50 between post mile 4.962 at Cambridge Road and post mile 6.570 at Cameron Park Drive in El Dorado County as the "Deputy Sheriff Danny P. Oliver Memorial Highway." 3)Requests that the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) determine the cost of appropriate signs, consistent with the signing requirements for the state highway system, showing the special designation and, upon receiving donations from non-state sources covering that cost, to erect those SCR 152 Page 2 signs. EXISTING LAW: Assigns Caltrans the responsibility of operating and maintaining state highways. This includes the installation and maintenance of highway signs. FISCAL EFFECT: Unknown, but the measure requests that Caltrans only erect the appropriate signage upon receiving donations from non-state sources covering the cost. COMMENTS: Danny P. Oliver joined the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department in 1999. Deputy Sheriff Oliver is remembered for his demeanor on the job and dedication to his family. Deputy Sheriff Oliver was killed in the line of duty on October 24, 2014. He is survived by his daughters and his wife. This resolution designating a portion of US 50 in El Dorado County in his honor acknowledges the significant role Deputy Sheriff Oliver played in his community.
