An act to add Section 108.6 to the Labor Code, relating to certified electricians.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

SB 607, as introduced, Bates. Certified electricians: skilled journeyperson.

Existing law requires the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement to maintain minimum standards for the competency and training of electricians through a system of testing and certification.

Existing law also sets forth requirements for the use of a skilled and trained workforce of all workers that are either skilled journeypersons or registered apprentices to perform specified work on state agency design-build projects, local agency design-build projects, and at certain stationary sources posing a regulated substances accident risk.

This bill would deem an electrician certified pursuant to those standards a skilled journeyperson for purposes of any law.
