SUMMARY:
This bill makes technical, conforming, and non-controversial
changes to specific sections of the Health and Safety Code and
the Welfare and Institutions Code, and deletes the sunset date
of the California Office of Health Information Integrity

(CalOHII).
FISCAL EFFECT:
Annual costs of $3.7 million ($2.4 million General Fund and $1.3
million reimbursements) to extend indefinitely the operations of
the CalOHII.
COMMENTS:
Purpose. This is a health omnibus bill that makes a number of
technical, conforming, and non-controversial code changes. The
most substantive provision extends the sunset date on Cal-OHII,
which aims to advance interoperability and integrity of health
data, and is responsible for ensuring compliance with health
information privacy laws, including the federal Health
Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and
related law and regulations.
